Bodystat Congress, Isle of Man, March 2007

Press Release

More than 30 distributors and suppliers from around the world gathered at the Mount Murray Hotel, Isle of Man, to attend two days of presentations and seminars hosted by Bodystat Ltd, the Isle of Man based market leader in bio-electrical impedance analysis (BIA) research and development.

The distributors and suppliers had come from India, Malaysia, Kenya, South Africa, Europe, China, Mexico and the UAE to the The Bodystat International Congress where managing director Sakkie Meeuwsen showcased four new BIA units for body composition measurement that use brand new technology developed by his team of researchers: the Bodystat 1500, a single frequency measuring device for the fitness market; the Bodystat 1500 MDD, a dual-frequency device with a Wellness Marker for both healthy and obese population groups; and the top-of-the-range QuadScan 4000, a multi-frequency measuring device with an Illness Marker designed for the hospital market that will detect fluid shifts inside and outside the body cells as well as the cells’ nutritional status.

Mr Meeuwsen said. ‘These three devices are for human application, but the fourth unit we launched at the congress, the Equistat, is a world first and a major scientific breakthrough. It looks at electrolytes in performance horses to determine the animal’s dehydration status and body composition. The Equistat has been very well received and has already featured on the Discovery Channel in Canada.

‘Bodystat products are in 42 countries and supplied to BUPA, the armed forces, the police and fire services.

Presentations were given by Mr Meeuwsen as well as three clinicians. A fifth-year medical student from the neo-natal unit of the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital working with premature babies in London and Bangladesh explained how Bodystat’s illness marker concept and the use of the Quadscan monitored the extra-cellular water (ECW) status of newborns and detected early signs of illness in sick babies.

Other speakers were Dr Michael Lindinger, an equine researcher from Canada; Dr Malcolm Ellis of M.I.E. Medical Research in Leeds who gave a talk on programmable solutions on chip, (PSOC) and Dr Petr Cikl, a consultant in internal medicine from a leading hospital in the Czech Republic.

At the end of the Saturday congress guests were given a tour of the Island on the Sunday followed by lunch before being returned to Ronaldsway Airport.
