Bodystat has been dedicated in developing Bioelectrical Impedance Analyser (BIA) technology over the last 31 years.
We have developed & commercialised leading medical devices and software that utilise bioimpedance technology to measure body composition, hydration & cellular health status.
Although our origins began as a family-run business in 1990, Bodystat has since grown and we are now proud to be leaders in our field.
We have over 100 years of collective in-house in Bioelectrical Impedance Analysers (BIA) experience and are proud to be located in one of the Isle of Man’s largest business parks.
The next stage in our exciting journey sees us launch a latest generation product to the market – the Multiscan 5000.
In this guide we would like to share more information on the Multiscan 5000 and the benefits it will offer to clinicians and researchers worldwide.
Research & Development
Our team of R&D specialists are pioneers in BIA and are dedicated to developing the latest in BIA technology to ensure we provide access to innovative products focused on market needs.
That’s why we are delighted to announce the launch of our latest generation Multiscan 5000.
The Multiscan 5000 – The technology
The Multiscan 5000 incorporates the latest, state-of-the-art Bioelectrical Impedance Spectroscopy (BIS) technology based on Direct Digital Synthesis, Digital Signal Processing and Active Shielding Technology.
Stray Capacitance & Bioelectrical Impedance Spectroscopy (BIS)
The challenge associated with Bioelectrical Impedance Spectroscopy (BIS) is Stray Capacitance, more specifically the ‘Hook Effect’.
Artifacts may occur in Electrical Bioimpedance (EBI) measurements. One of the most common artifacts present in measurements is the ‘Hook Effect’, which is identifiable by the hook-alike deviation on the EBI data that it produces on the Impedance Plot.
The ‘Hook Effect’ influences typical EBI data analysis processes like the Cole-Cole fitting (plotting) process and the estimation of the Cole-Cole parameters, which are critical for several EBI applications.
Therefore the ‘Hook Effect’ must be corrected, compensated or removed before any fitting (plotting) process. This requires clinician intervention and is time consuming.
The solution
The Multiscan 5000 provides a unique solution by correcting this, thereby ensuring precise Cole Model value parameters. This eliminates time consuming clinician intervention.

Accuracy & Reproducibility
Bodystat prides itself on the Accuracy and Reproducibility of its measurements and results.
The Multiscan 5000 offers precise and stable Impedance and Phase Angle values on multiple frequencies ensuring high quality BIS measurements.
It is important to note that the Multiscan 5000 directly measures and not calculates Phase Angle.
Included with the Multiscan 5000 are new Low Capacitance & durable Lead Wires with significantly improved performance at high frequencies.
Convenience
The Multiscan 5000 has been designed with clinicians in mind.
The innovative Wireless Charging has enabled a lightweight & slim design offering portability.
There is no need for disposable battery replacement.
Remote access allows for version updates & system diagnosis eliminating the need for costly & time- consuming shipping.
BIVA Vector Analysis
BIVA Vector Analysis is displayed on both the screen and in the Body Manager BIS software.
BIVA represents a quick pictorial method of showing hydration and the nutritional status of a subject in comparison to their population group.

Prediction Marker
The Prediction Marker or Impedance Ratio is the ratio between the impedance measurement at 200 kHz & 5 kHz.
Studies have shown that this reflects the integrity of the cellular membrane.
To realise the full potential of the Prediction Marker, it should be tracked over a period of time.
The Prediction Marker provides an easily quantifiable value against which improvement can be measured.
OHY – Dialysis
OHY stands for Over-Hydration (i.e. the Volume of Over-Hydration or fluid overload measured in litres).

Body Manager BIS software
The Multiscan 5000 includes the Body Manager BIS software. The summary page displays all the body composition and hydration measurements, each of which can be viewed as pie charts, Cole-Cole or BIVA, as well as viewing them as trends within the software.
